No batteries or Panel Power needed!
The Airman 850 first received FAA TSO approval in 2004. It was then and is still today the only ANR headset which requires no batteries. By designing ultra efficiency into every aspect of the electrical and acoustical systems, the Airman 850 utilizes the excess capacity of the microphone power system to provide ANR with no need for external batteries or costly installed power supply systems. And, at just over four ounces, the Airman 850 is still the lightest ANR headset approved for commercial aviation.
Tens of thousands of Airman 850 headsets have been sold over the last decade, and most are still in service. Its reliable operation, lightweight design, and excellent audio quality have made it the standard headset of many major airlines, including Air Canada (Airbus series), Air France, Emirates, FedEx (Boeing 777), KLM, Shenzhen, Southwest, and WestJet. The Airman 850 is also used on the USAF’s VIP fleet, including Air Force One.
The Airman 850 is the standard installed headset on corporate jets from leading manufacturers including Cessna, Dassault Falcon, and Gulfstream. It is also approved and/or has proven compatibility and is used in many business and commercial aircraft from manufacturers including Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, and Learjet.

The Airman 850's design was created specifically for pilots of turbine airplanes who don’t require a large clamping headset, and with just enough noise reduction to reduce fatigue and improve communications.
“As the lightest ANR headset in this market, it is still one of the most popular with pilots, even after 10 years,” Parker continues. “No ANR headset is easier for pilots to use – there are no batteries to worry about, and no complicated switches or wiring. At every NBAA show I am amazed at how many pilots tell us how much they love the 850. Telex is very proud to make a headset that pilots really enjoy using.”

An adjustable headband gives the wearer two inches of up and down earphone adjustment per side, while gimbal mounting improves the headset's side-to-side comfort. The ear cups and cushions have been enlarged from previous models to enhance pilot comfort.Microphone
The Airman 850 features a miniature, amplified, noise-cancelling electret microphone that provides superior 400Hz hum rejection. The flexible boom rotates 320° and can be worn on either side of the head. A replaceable windscreen is included to minimize popping, hissing, and breathing sounds when speaking.Controls
The Airman 850 contains an On/Off switch to control ANR power and a Hi/Low switch for controlling receiver volume.Cordage and Plugs
